Atlantic Wall · France
The Naval Coastal Battery at Oye-Plage was a significant section of the Atlantic Wall – the monumental defensive belt that Nazi Germany built along the entire European Atlantic coast from 1942 onwards. Under the command of the Kriegsmarine, heavy gun turrets guarded the coastal strip between Dunkirk and Calais.
Histovia Film visited the still-preserved bunker complexes on location – the footage was shot at original sites that have remained largely untouched since the end of the Second World War. The site near Oye-Plage is one of the lesser-known but well-preserved sections of the Atlantic Wall in the northern French département of Pas-de-Calais.
The documentary reel shows the impressive concrete structures, explains their military-strategic function, and examines how these installations were used within the context of German coastal defence – and why they ultimately could not withstand the Allied invasions.
