Atlantic Wall D-Day Normandy

6 June 1944 – Inside the Fire Control Bunker of Longues-sur-Mer

Longues-sur-Mer is one of the best-preserved Atlantic Wall batteries in Normandy. On 6 June 1944 – the day of the Allied invasion – German soldiers were stationed in the fire control bunker, watching the largest amphibious operation in history unfold.

Histovia Film visited the original fire control bunker as well as the four gun bunkers, which remain fully intact to this day. The battery is one of the few sites where the original guns can still be seen in situ.

The reel puts the viewer in the perspective of the German garrison on D-Day – and explains how the Longues-sur-Mer battery was put out of action within a few hours by Allied warships.
