Atlantic Wall
The Army Coastal Battery Heuqueville was one of the large artillery batteries of the Atlantic Wall in Normandy. Unlike the naval batteries, it was under army command and was equipped with heavy coastal guns that exercised far-reaching control over the strait.
Histovia Film visited the remains of the site and documented the still-visible bunkers, gun emplacements and underground passages. The battery lies not far from Normandy's famous invasion beaches.
The reel explains the technical differences between army and naval batteries, the size of the garrison, and why these installations, despite their size and firepower, could not prevent the Allied landings on 6 June 1944.
