The Man Who Wanted to Reach Mars – Hermann Oberth Part 1

Alongside Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and Robert Goddard, Hermann Oberth is regarded as one of the three fathers of modern spaceflight. Born in Transylvania, the physicist and mathematician developed the theoretical foundations of rocket technology as early as the 1920s.

Part 1 of Histovia Film's Oberth documentary series looks at Oberth's early years – his scientific training, his groundbreaking dissertation "The Rocket into Planetary Space" and his influence on the next generation of rocket researchers.

The reel shows how a single visionary, with limited resources and unshakeable belief in spaceflight, laid the foundations for the entire rocket age – and why Oberth remains too little known to the wider public even today.
