Switzerland in the Second World War
The Linth Plain is one of the most fascinating secrets of Swiss wartime history. During the Second World War, the Swiss Army planned to systematically flood the entire area between Lake Zürich and Lake Walen – as a natural line of defence against a possible German invasion.
Histovia Film researched and documented this little-known chapter of Swiss military history. The water weapon was part of the so-called Réduit – Switzerland's secret defence concept, designed to make the country almost impregnable in the event of war.
The reel explains how the flooding was intended to work technically, what infrastructure was built for it, and why this secret defence concept remains largely unknown to this day.
