Michael Hartlieb – Military Historian, Kummersdorf

Military Historian, Kummersdorf

Michael Hartlieb

Michael Hartlieb is a military historian with over 40 years of research experience. Having grown up as the son of an officer and himself having served for several years in the armed organs of the GDR, he has for many years focused on the Kummersdorf Army Proving Ground near Berlin. From 1994 to 2000 he worked at the museum there, where he independently built up the archive, which he continuously expanded through research in external archives and numerous research trips. Through this intensive study of primary sources, together with travels to archives, museums and eyewitnesses in the USA, Russia and across Europe, he has built up unique specialist knowledge, which he now shares with a broad audience via the “Histovia” channel.
